Miró Quartet wins Banff String Quartet competition August 22, 1998
Miro String Quartet received a standing ovation from a full house in the Eric Harvie Theatre at The Banff Centre tonight when jury chair Andrew Dawes declared the American group the winner of the 6th Banff International String Quartet competition. Miro's members, Daniel Ching, [first violin] Sandy Yamamoto [second violin] John Largess [viola] and Joshua Gindele [cello] will split the $20,000. The first prize also includes a recital tour, a custom made bow for each quartet member, offer of residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts and the opportunity to record a CD there as well. |
