Don’t feed the bears (horrifying anecdotes) October 19, 1998
Things are not normal in the western woods these days. As Mr. Germaine and others have recently learned to their horror, the grizzlies and black bears that rule the wilderness seem to be changing. Traditionally hunters and campers have been told that bears just want to be left alone and will only attack to protect cubs or a carcass. But according to B.C. bear expert James Gary Shelton, author of Bear Attacks: The Deadly Truth, preservationist policies are making bears braver and turning humans into a walking food supply.
