he Trans-Canada highway has re-opened to two-lane traffic 5 kilometres west of Banff, where a huge mudslide came down yesterday. Parks Canada spokeswoman Heather Dempsey says crews have been able to clear a path through the slide area. Speed limits will be tightly controlled. There will be flag persons and traffic control, and drivers should use caution. Mudslides roared across the highway last night, narrowly missing several cars and stranding hundreds of travelers. It will take several days before all the debris is cleared and traffic returns to normal on the Trans-Canada. Highway 1A was also closed by the slides. At one point today the detour around the slides was taking more than six hours.
