Some of Canada's most memorable mountaineering and ski legends are to be honoured at a new museum to open in a Banff shopping mall this fall. Known as the Canadian Ski Museum West, the new museum will celebrate the Canadian Rockies' colourful characters and will be affiliated to the national ski museum in Ottawa, the nation's capital. Historical documentation and artifacts will tell a story of the history of skiing in the mountains, from the first arrival of the Swiss mountain guides in Banff National Park to today's ski racing champions. The first piece for the museum was unveiled in July - a half scale bronze sculpture of local mountaineering legend 84-year-old Bruno Engler in a classic ski pose.
