Wardens threaten to avoid risky work unless issued arms August 28, 1999
Some of Canada's 400 national park wardens are threatening to stop dangerous work unless the federal government arms them with standard-issue handguns, says the head of Canada's largest wardens' group. "A lot of wardens are upset about the lack of officer safety, and want something done," said Mark Halley, president of the National Park Warden Association, which represents about 180 wardens who oversee 36 national parks and park reserves across the country, including Alberta's Banff and Jasper national parks.
