Chateau Lake Louise expansion given go-ahead September 21, 1999
A federal court judge has ruled that a controversial development in Banff National Park can go ahead. A group of Alberta conservationists took Parks Canada and Canadian Pacific Hotels to court, over plans for a seven-storey convention centre in the park. The expansion, which is to be part of Chateau Lake Louise, was approved by the federal government just prior to its decision to limit growth in the park. The ruling states that the federal court doesn't have the power to review a Parks Canada decision. The conservation groups intend to appeal the decision.
