Banff gets serious on rowdies July 30, 1999
Banff town council says it plans to tackle the problem of noisy, drunken revellers in Banff starting this fall. Mayor Dennis Shuler said Thursday that the town will hold a symposium to seek a solution to chronic noise complaints that are disturbing overnight guests and hurting the town's international image. Groups of 10 to 20 mostly young people, including visitors and staff workers, are causing a commotion after leaving the bars at 3 a.m., Shuler said. One solution, he suggested, could be an increased police presence and more laying of charges. He noted that Banff bars could also choose to refuse admittance to those under the age of 21. Banff RCMP Staff Sgt. Al McLeod said he first proposed the noise symposium earlier this year. Related stories: late night noise |
