Alberta's Minister of Economic Development Jon Havelock says changes in Air Canada and Canadian Airline’s schedules mean fewer flights to Alberta, resulting in a painful blow to the tourism industry. Japanese tour operators are concerned about poor connections and their impact on ski holidays in Banff and Lake Louise, he said. “They say they're looking at U.S. ski destinations as an alternative. For the first time in years, numerous hotels and motels in Banff are experiencing vacancies during the summer peak season. There have also been reports of room cancellations in Edmonton and Jasper directly attributable to air-service problems.”
