Grizzly bears remain at risk in high-traffic areas

Burying parts of the Trans-Canada Highway or closing some sections at night should be considered if grizzly bears and other carnivores are to have a future in the Rockies, says a leading bear biologists. Stephen Herrero said 85% of the 462 grizzlies killed in the park between 1970 and 1997 died within 500 metres of a road or high-use trail.
