Cougar stalked skier before Banff attack January 4, 2001
The cougar that killed Frances Frost was a large “well-muscled” male that stalked its victim and pounced on her from behind, according to evidence gathered by tracking experts. The animal bit Frost on the neck. Frost's death was the first recorded cougar attack on a human in Banff National Park She was skiing alone on Cascade Fire Road. A female skier came upon the cougar as it hovered over Frost’s body, just 100 metres from the trailhead. The woman alerted other skiers. When wardens arrived they found the cougar on the body and immediately shot it. Related stories: Frances Frost | cougars |
