Battle may threaten Banff skiing January 21, 2001
The national park ski areas complain that federal regulations are so restrictive they cannot afford to maintain and improve their facilities. Lack of upgrades is frustrating clients, driving them to resorts in Fernie, Invermere, and Golden. John Ross, marketing director at Sunshine, claims the park ski industry will go extinct. Crosbie Cotton, spokesman for the National Park Ski Area Coalition, claims that all but 2% of the park is left to wildlife. The report is balanced by quotes from Mike McIvor, president of the Bow Valley Naturalists. Related stories: ski hills |
