An expensive new fence system around Brule tunnel in Jasper National Park is saving big horn sheep from being killed by trains. The animals have spent the past few decades searching for shelter or shortcuts in the tunnel through Bedson Ridge on the park's east side. In the past five years, 32 sheep have been trapped in Brule tunnel and killed by trains. There have been no deaths there since December because Canadian National spent nearly $100,000 on 150 metres of fence, Bradford said. CN trains have killed more than 700 animals -- including bears, wolves and mountain lions -- in Jasper National Park since 1980.
