Parks Canada abruptly discontinued all its law enforcement activities in national parks Friday after a ruling that frowned on a department policy of not equipping wardens with sidearms. A federal Health and Safety official ruled in favor of Banff warden Doug Martin, who complained that Parks Canada's policy constituted a danger to employees at work. Parks will be assessing the issue over the next few months before it decides on a permanent solution.
