On Parks Act proclamation, Copps confirms ecological integrity is first priority February 20, 2001
The Honourable Sheila Copps, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today tabled before Parliament the Canada National Marine Conservation Areas Act... The Minister also called for reflection upon the contribution of Parks Canada to the heritage of Canada. "Yesterday the Canada National Parks Act was proclaimed," said Minister Copps. "This is another proud step for the Parks Canada Agency. The new Act provides a modern legislative framework for preserving Canada's most outstanding terrestrial landscapes. It also confirms that ecological integrity will be the first priority in park management. The national parks system is recognized as a national treasure - a symbol of Canada's identity - that must be properly protected and wisely managed." |
