Independence day draws near for Jasper

Sheila Copps, the Minister of Canadian Heritage, has agreed to negotiate self-government with Jasper in a development that should see the National Park town running most of its own affairs by May. Jasper, population 4,500, voted 73% in favour of seeking independence from Ottawa in a plebiscite last November.
