Crazy life of 'Ir' in the balance (by Ken Read) March 28, 2001
Dave Irwin, 46, one of the original Crazy Canucks of downhill skiing, is in a coma and on life support after crashing Friday during a training run for a race near Banff. In 1975, Ken Read became the first North American to win a World Cup downhill and, two weeks later, Irwin won in Austria to become the second.
