Dave Irwin, who defied odds on the World Cup downhill circuit by continually coming back from serious injuries, has emerged from a two-week coma to kiss his girlfriend and squeeze the hand of a friend. "He is off life support and out of his coma but still in a reduced state of consciousness," Doug Fraser, a hospital spokesman, said yesterday.
