Lower speed limits suggested for Lake Louise in wake of bear killing May 18, 2001
Officials at Banff National Park want drivers to slow down along the Trans Canada Highway near Lake Louise. The call comes after a five year old male grizzly bear was struck and killed on the highway Monday night, by a large vehicle. "We're putting in a voluntary speed zone of 70 km/hr, starting approximately from where this bear was killed through the four lane section that goes through the Lake Louise area," says Ed Abbott, chief warden for the Lake Louise area of Banff National park.
