Derailment causes diesel spill in Mount Robson Park July 19, 2001
Thousands of litres of diesel fuel have been spilled in a freight train derailment in Mount Robson Provincial Park west of Jasper . No one was injured in the derailment. Two locomotives plunged over a 20-foot embankment early on Wednesday morning, after flood waters washed out the rail bed. Containment teams are now on the scene, trying to protect a wetland above the headwaters of the Fraser River. Parks officials say they're confident they can keep the fuel from polluting the river. Fifteen grain and pulp cars also spilled their loads, and there is concern that the grain will attract bears. |
