Scurfield thwarted: Skiing Louise rescue goes ahead August 21, 2001
A last minute application to buy into a number of Canadian ski resorts owned by Charlie Locke has been rejected by a Court of Queen's Bench judge in Calgary. Last week, creditors agreed to a rescue package for Skiing Louise and six other resorts. That package was put forward by Murray Edwards. It pays off secured creditors but gives some unsecured creditors only 25 cents on the dollar. A rival bid by Robert Suderman and Ralph Scurfield of Sunshine ski resort was not voted on at last weeks meeting. Today a Court of Queens Bench judge ruled the rival bid had no letter of commitment and no concrete plan. He rejected the application and signed the bid by Murray Edwards. Charlie Locke is pleased the plan to save his resorts is now going ahead. Locke says companies have been doing business with his resorts for 20 years and he expects the new company will not have trouble working with businesses in the future.
