The historic Banff Springs Hotel unveiled more than $75-million in restorations this weekend, only to face an uncertain world that hotel officials say could be devastating for the tourism industry. "It's going to be a difficult time not only for Americans but for the free world," said Ted Kissane, regional vice-president and general manager of the 113-year-old Canadian landmark. He expects a severe reduction in international travel following last week's terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, but remains stoic on prospects for the stately hotel, a designated national historic site. "We have had 2,500 to 2,700 cancellations, but it doesn't matter," said Mr. Kissane. "We have our lives. We have our families. Compared to what is going on in the U.S., our problems are totally meaningless.
