Attack hammers Banff tourism September 18, 2001
A "catastrophic" tourism crisis sparked by last week's U.S. terrorist attacks has caught Banff in its crosshairs. Some Banff businesses are laying off employees, cutting services and asking staff to take holidays as they reel from thousands of holiday cancellations. Banff relies almost exclusively on jets to shuttle international tourists to Calgary before being bused to the Rocky Mountain resort, said the president of the Banff Lake Louise Hotel Motel Association. "This has had a very dramatic impact on us -- business has slowed severely. There has been a huge number of cancellations at all properties in Banff and Lake Louise," Bill Squarebriggs said Monday.
