Banff businesses join forces against economic slump November 11, 2001
Increasing costs and dwindling tourist traffic has prompted small business owners in Banff to band together and try to form a new organization. About 80 restauranteurs, shop owners and others attended an investigative meeting on Tuesday to see what they can do to counteract the area's slumping economy. James Warner, who owns a small specialty shop, says the time is right for this type of grass roots organization. "I think there's a concern that we certainly don't have as many people travelling internationally," says Warner. "I think it's our focus to make our regional services even that much better than we have right now and we want to bring as many people to Banff from Canada, to us and our area, as we can." Details, membership and strategies of the new organization will be worked out in the coming weeks. Related stories: Post-September 11 tourism recession |
