Resorts slash prices to rescue tourist trade November 11, 2001
An aggressive $1-million advertising campaign unveiled Friday aims to bolster sagging tourism numbers using dramatically slashed prices at Alberta's winter resorts and a former Olympian as its spokesman. "Tourism is one of Alberta's largest industries, and it has been significantly affected by recent world events," said Mark Norris, the province's minister of economic development. "We estimate that the global slowdown in travel and tourism has had an impact of up to $100 million to date in Alberta," Norris said Friday. Related stories: Post-September 11 tourism recession |
