Hot Spring pool drained of snail habitat

When parts of the historic Cave and Basin’s cave started falling in — posing a risk to public safety — staff discovered the erosion was being caused by an algae-clogged drain that was creating a new sulphur hot springs habitat for the endangered Banff Springs snail. After an emergency environmental assessment, Parks Canada ordered the pool’s removal Friday (Nov. 9)
