Canmore seeks $600,000 for G8 costs November 20, 2001
When the G-8 summit unfolds in Kananaskis Country next summer, the Town of Canmore could be faced with a bill of up to $600,000. That's a preliminary estimate based on a report prepared by the Town's administration to get an idea of the costs involved in providing security for the community during the G-8. The Town presented the preliminary report to Halvar Jonson, Alberta's Minister of Inter-governmental Relations, during the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association's conference last Thursday (Nov. 15) in Edmonton. "This targets our health issues... and basic security and surveillance issues," Bert Dyck, the Town's Chief Administrative Officer, said during the Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday (Nov. 13).
