War on terror brings rocky season to Banff

Every week, another piece of the Sept. 11 catastrophe emerges to let Banff know just how affected it is by the terrorist attacks that rocked North America. The resulting international slump in tourism hit almost every business directly in the pocketbook, giving many operators no choice but to lay off staff, slash prices and cut back on everything. Now, just days before Christmas, the national park town is seeing its highest numbers ever for the Santa's Anonymous food hamper program. With 130 names on the hamper distribution list, it is the busiest season in the program's 12-year history.
