A popular winter event in Banff National Park, the Lake Louise to Banff Loppet, is in danger of being cancelled. The event is a race and relay for cross country skiers. The 65-kilometre course begins at Chateau Lake Louise and winds through remote areas of the Bow Valley to Banff. The first Loppet was held in the early 1920's and has since become an annual winter tradition. The next race is scheduled for January 26. Jo Lunn, the organizer of the event, says they've received permission from Parks Canada to ski in the park. However Lunn says there are four points on the course where skiers need to access land owned by Canadian Pacific Railway. He says the company is refusing to allow that access.
