But the biggest surprise is reserved for team veteran Thomas Grandi, returning from a lingering back injury which put him off skis for the entire season two years ago. Skiing from start position 52, Grandi placed sixth last week in the Slovenian resort of Kranjska Gora. Of note, the Banff native posted the second fastest time in the second run, his closest brush with the podium since November, 1997, when he became the first Canadian male to reach the top three in a technical event.
