Banff Esso faces demolition

Imperial Oil will demolish its Esso service station in downtown Banff this fall, clean up the contaminated site and hand the land back to the federal government by the end of the year. The move is part of Canadian Heritage Minister Sheila Copps' 1998 decision to take back the 200 block of Banff Avenue to limit commercial development in the national park townsite and make way for an environmental education centre.
