That brings me to Wanted Words, edited by Jane Farrow. CBC radio's This Morning asked for listeners' words for nameless everyday things, which these two volumes shortlist and pick winners. (The Book of Liff appropriated names of places where the authors thought no one worth mentioning lived for such things, like Abilene for the coolness on the underside of the pillow, Albuquerque for the illegible scrawl you make on any official document and Banff for the look you get on your face for a passport photo.
