OTTAWA (CP) -- The rising popularity of skiing is causing major environmental damage in many areas of the Rockies, both in the United States and Canada, says a United Nations study. The problem is magnified by telecommuting -- the practice of working by computer from home -- because people are moving into fragile mountain areas, says the UN University report. Jack Ives, a mountain ecologist who contributed to the report, said the ski industry is creating unsustainable pressure in the Rockies.
