Avalanche victims warned of risk

Three American tourists killed by an avalanche in the Kootenays were warned the risks were high before they headed out for a day of backcountry skiing. The group of eight from western Washington state was flown by helicopter to the secluded Kootenay Mountain Huts near Kaslo, B.C., on Sunday and was scheduled to stay a week. Their stay was cut short when three members of the group were killed Monday afternoon by an avalanche that swept down Mount Carlyle.
