Mayor chips in for community centre

The mayor of Banff is offering $10,000 out of his own pocket as the first pledge toward building the town a community centre. In a surprise announcement, Banff Town Council approved plans to build a community centre at the same time as the high school renovations proceed. The approval comes with a condition that the Town stays out of debt. The community will need to fund-raise close to $2.3 million, or close to 46 per cent of the $5 million dollar cost. A crowd of over 100 people packed Council Chambers to voice support for a community gathering spot.
