Scientists speak out on Three Sisters, Bow Valley wildlife corridors February 4, 2002
This letter was signed by a number of outstanding environmental scientists the day of the recent January 19th Three Sisters Workshop on Wildlife Corridors. The current corridor design, developed by Three Sisters Resorts in 1991, is based on science that was intended for calculating spacing between logging clearcuts in remote elk and deer habitat in Washington and Oregon. This science is not suitable for the increasingly urbanized Bow Valley at Canmore, for the range of species that move through this area, and for the ecological setting. The wildlife corridor design guidelines collectively put forth by the Town of Canmore, the Government of Alberta, the Municipal District of Bighorn, and Banff National Park, are based on science appropriate to the Bow Valley. |
