Feds set up test wells at contaminated sites February 14, 2002
Parks Canada will set up monitoring wells at a site where abnormally high levels of hydrocarbons were detected not far from Banff’s drinking water supply to help allay any public fears. Park officials say that five or six monitoring wells will be set up around the old government horse corrals after unacceptably high hydrocarbon levels were found at one of 24 test digs. The site, a few hundred metres from Banff’s drinking water wells, was home to an asphalt plant in the 1950s or 1960s, where storage tanks containing oil and road tar were also stored.
