Fairmont surprises with quick recovery February 19, 2002
Fairmont's fourth-quarter results were down, but not as much as analysts feared. Bookings at the chain's hotels, such as the Fairmont Banff Springs, have recovered from Sept. 11's shock. Earlier this month at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, surely one of the most beautiful resort properties in the world, the staff was handed the tough assignment of watering and feeding 120 for a wedding. They did a superb job. And the other services at the resort and hotel operation were managed just as impressively, which says much about why Americans, Europeans and Asians flock there. What is new is that investors can now buy into this expansive and expanding Canadian hotel and resort chain, because Fairmont Hotels and Resorts Inc. was recently spun off by Canadian Pacific Ltd. and is now floating on its own.
