John E. Monod leaves a legacy

John E. Monod died at the Mineral Springs Hospital on May 30 at the age of 89. Born in Geneva, Switzerland in 1912, Monod spent his early adult years pioneering skiing in Chamonix, France. He moved to Canada after World War II. Shortly after his arrival, he worked with pioneer Elizabeth Rummel during her days at Skoki Lodge. He founded Monod Sports in 1949, and was a prominent ski instructor at Sunshine Village and Norquay in the 1950s.
