Lightning kills fossil collector

One of Western Canada’s most celebrated naturalists and fossil collectors was killed on a mountaintop near Lake Louise when he was struck by lightning. Hikers discovered the body of Rene Savenye, 63, president of the White Rock and Surrey Naturalists Society, near the summit of Mount Fairview, where he had been fossil hunting Friday.
