Banff council has refused to close Bow Avenue to motorized traffic despite warnings from the local emergency doctors that there is a “serious accident waiting to happen.” Nigel Paterson, the only councilor in favor of closing the road, said that closing the road and rehabilitating the riverbank was the town’s chance to demonstrate its commitment to being a model national park townsite within a renowned world heritage site. “It’s been in the works for over 40 years,” he said. “To leave it open and leave it in this condition — it is a disgrace.” [ Nigel Paterson for mayor! ]
