A winter of avalanche deaths has prompted Parks Canada to launch a review of its backcountry safety guidelines. A three-member independent committee was appointed to examine how the federal department warns the public about avalanche danger in the Rocky Mountain chain in both Alberta and B.C. There were 28 fatalities this season in the two provinces - the worst year since 1965, when 28 people died.
