The way in which hazardous trees are dealt with in day-use areas will soon be discussed among national park staff, which may lead to changes in trail maintenance. Sage and Shea O’Neill, ages 8 and 5, two sisters from Canmore, were killed when they were crushed by a tree toppled by a gust of wind on a trail in Kootenay National Park on June 30. The accident occurred before the first bridge at Marble Canyon. The tree was above the trail, on an embankment a few metres from the trail, before it fell.
