Fire knocks out power as Banff gets blackout of its own

Banff experienced its own blackout on August 14, after a fire knocked out a power line. About 16,000 people in Banff, Lake Louise and Sunshine were without electricity for about four hours until Aquila Networks was able to divert power from the Cascade hydro dam. A prescribed burn in the area got out of control and firefighters weren’t able to keep it away from power lines along the highway.
