In the Fairholme range, the spectacular columns of smoke in the Fairholme yesterday were a result of fires lit on upper slopes in an effort to draw smoke out of the Bow Valley, and reduce fuels as part of the containment plan for this area. Last night and today, fire crews are burning off vegetation between the Trans-Canada Highway and the powerline to strengthen fire guards. Fire activity will be visible from the highway, and there is no reason to be alarmed.
