Parks Canada will spend $500,000 to clean up an old dump site that houses have been built on. The soil – contaminated with lead, zinc and barium – will be removed and replaced. In some places, the soil's lead content was 75 times the nationally-accepted standard, but Parks Canada says a study found it isn't a hazard to human health. They will clean-up the site next spring, although dirt under the seven affected homes won't be removed.
