Guardians of historic sites laud Fraser’s harsh report February 14, 2004
The sorry state of the country’s 149 historic sites and 41 national parks was highlighted earlier this week in a report by Auditor-General Sheila Fraser. It found that more than two-thirds of the national historic sites managed by Parks Canada, as well as some federal heritage buildings, are in a “poor to fair condition.” Cave and Basin National Historic Site in Banff, considered the birthplace of the national parks system in 1885, is listed in the report as “falling into disrepair.” Related stories: parks infrastructure | built heritage Other news for February 2004 |
