Fraud artist awaits word on U.S. extradition

There will be a bail hearing Thursday for a woman who is wanted in the United States for trying to kill her mother. Lisa Hackney, 49, was convicted of fraud in Alberta last fall, but she skipped the province before U.S. authorities could provide an extradition warrant. Hackney, who's known for using a dozen aliases and a variety of wigs, was arrested in Victoria last fall for setting up a phony writer's conference in Banff. She collected just under $5,000 in registration fees, then left town. he was convicted of the fraud and sentenced to time served.
