Fortress ski resort closed next year

Fortress Mountain will be closed next season, and may have already catered to its last ever group of skiers. Resorts of the Canadian Rockies announced that due to high operating costs of aging chairlifts, sky-rocketing insurance premiums and declining ski visitors, Fortress Mountain, 130 km west of Calgary, will keep its gates closed and its lifts idle for the 2004-2005 winter season.
