Outdoor enthusiasts are urged to be cautious at all times in backcountry areas, following a cougar attack on Aug. 14 that resulted in minor injuries. It is important to supervise children closely and don't let them play near dense vegetation. When walking near wooded areas or along streams, be sure to travel in groups, make noise and carry pepper spray. Pets should be leashed and kept indoors at night. Don't leave out food or garbage.
