Concern for grizzlies stems from orphan cubs October 13, 2004
Concern about the fate of six orphaned grizzlies has prompted conservation groups to call on Parks Canada to better manage the animals. Jim Pissot, executive director of Defenders of Wildlife Canada, says three adult females have been killed around Lake Louise over the past few months, leaving six cubs motherless. Parks Canada needs to develop emergency guidelines to deal with situations like the orphaned cubs, Pissot said. The bears, essentially at the teenage phase of their lives, now have to fend for themselves. Related stories: bears Other news for October 2004 |
